I haven't done many still lifes, so when a local gallery called for a show titled "On the table" I decided to rise to the challenge.
Composition is foremost but color and light go hand in hand and they all must work together.
I chose the lemons and this plate because of the contrast between their color, texture and shape.
(My youngest son made the plate when he was in 5th grade, so it holds emotional value for me too.)

On a recent visit to the National Portrait Gallery in Washington D.C., I happened to catch this view from another room across the hallway. Fortunately, I had my camera at the ready, so I could capture the moment because I knew I HAD to paint it!
The quiet contemplation of the viewers captured my imagination; were they wondering about the woman in the paining, whose life was separated from theirs by hundreds of years? Or were they admiring the painting for its color and brushstrokes? It is those unanswered questions that live on in this piece.

The Musée d´Orsay in Paris is probably one of the most beautiful art museums in the world. It is very large and one can spend hours there.
After walking through the museum, I found myself on the top floor,dwarfed by a giant clock that also served as an enormous window. The graceful curves and geometric lines of the old clock made a beautiful frame for the view of the city, with Montmartre in the distance and the Seine glimmering in the sun below.
